The Bilingual Education Institute (BEI) is excited to celebrate International Education Week (IEW) 2024, which is held primarily the week before Thanksgiving (November 18—22, 2024). IEW is an annual commemoration, co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, to honor the great things that international students, scholars and academic visitors bring to the USA, as well as sending U.S. students to study in countries around the world.

To kick-off BEI’s IEW celebration of their international students, faculty and staff, a short class about Texas, culture and slang was presented on Thursday, November 14, 2024. The meeting ended with a fun ceremony to create 30 new “Honorary Texans” from BEI’s community. The upbeat presentation was presented by Dr. Adria Baker, BEI’s Head of Strategic Partnerships.

Other BEI activities to celebrate IEW 2024 include:

Monday, November 18, 2024 - Show pride in your school: Wear t-shirt that supports your school, your university, kids school.

Tuesday, November 19, 2024 - Celebrate your culture: Wear traditional clothing or t-shirt to celebrate your homeland.
